We have opportunities for both a **Textile Innovation Consultant** and an **Assistant Textile Innovator**. These roles offer unique opportunities to contribute to textile projects at the intersection of climate resilience, women’s health, and Himalayan livelihoods, with high visibility in national innovation networks.
Textile Innovation Consultant
Role Type
Consultant (Project-based | High-Impact R&D)

Must-Have Expertise
- 5+ years in Textile or allied industries- spinning, weaving & fabric R&D (esp. hemp, wool, bamboo).
- Knowledge of sustainable textile processing (enzymatic scouring, plasma activation).
- Yarn count balancing, GSM optimization, and functional textile testing (AATCC, ISO).
Project Scope
You will be instrumental in driving innovation across diverse applications:
- ECWCS (Extended Cold Weather Clothing System) - Defence applications.
- Menstrual and medical wellness textiles.
- Blending yarns and fabric development.
- Partnerships with innovation labs, rural cooperatives, and textile mills.
- Sustainable and scalable material innovation with Indian fiber blends.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance on fiber pre-treatment, enzymatic scouring, plasma activation, and related sustainable processing technologies.
- Lead the spinning, weaving, and knitting strategy across hemp, wool, bamboo, and allied materials.
- Evaluate and improve fiber-to-fabric conversions suited for functional textiles (e.g., ECWCS, antimicrobial gear, menstrual pads).
- Collaborate with CSIR labs, textile R&D institutions, and mills to create standardized protocols for blends.
- Support material testing (e.g., AATCC 22, ISO 20743, ISO 11092) and guide performance target alignment.
- Co-develop a technical documentation system, SOPs, and visual design briefs for scaling and investor presentations.
- Train junior R&D team and support patent/funding proposal inputs as needed.
Must-Have Qualifications & Attributes
- Minimum 5 years’ hands-on experience in natural fiber spinning and weaving (preferably in hemp, wool, bamboo).
- Deep understanding of fiber micron size, yarn count (Ne), GSM, blend balancing, and biodegradable textile chemistry.
- Exposure to sustainable fiber innovations, R&D collaborations, and navigating lab-to-manufacture scale-up.
- Ability to read technical standards, operate or guide textile machinery use (pilot scale or commercial).
- Self-driven, adaptable to hybrid field-lab-office environments, with a bias toward ethical and eco-positive design.
- Strong communication, documentation, and visual representation skills.
Desirable Traits
- Technical expert + system thinker.
- Passionate about climate-positive and regenerative textiles.
- Comfortable working across lab, field, and boardroom.
Preferred Experience
- Worked on functional clothing, medical textiles, or eco-certified textile programs.
- Familiarity with GI-tagged wool, indigenous fiber value chains, or artisan-based rural models is a plus.
- Prior engagement with government-funded R&D projects, textile grants, or tech transfer units is advantageous.
Assistant Textile Innovator (Sr. Project Manager Equivalent)

Project Scope
- Development & standardization of hemp-wool, hemp-bamboo blended yarns and fabrics.
- Piloting sustainable innovations across spinning, weaving, felting, and finishing.
- Field-to-lab implementation for medical, wellness, and performance textile applications.
- Collaboration with institutes, technical consultants, and rural producer units.
Must-Have Qualifications & Attributes
- Degree in Textile Technology, Fiber Science, Sustainable Fashion Innovation, or relevant field.
- Minimum 2–4 years of experience in textile labs or production environments involving natural fiber R&D.
- Working knowledge of blend formulation, yarn count (Ne), GSM optimization, and biodegradable fiber characteristics.
- Demonstrated ability to manage timelines, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and troubleshoot field-scale challenges.
- Willingness to be based in Palampur HP and work closely with both scientific and rural craft ecosystems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end execution of natural fiber yarn and fabric development projects, ensuring output quality and traceability.
- Supervise field trials, fiber pre-treatment, and blending experiments in collaboration with local artisans and R&D teams.
- Operate and manage lab-scale and production-level equipment for spinning, carding, weaving, or knitting.
- Oversee trial documentation, sampling logs, and testing coordination (GSM, yarn count, fabric performance).
- Act as the on-ground point of contact between Vijya Wellness, CSIR teams, and other institutional collaborators.
- Drive performance feedback loops, iterate fabric formulations, and prepare visual reports for stakeholders.
- Coordinate production schedules, procurement planning, and vendor communication as required.
Preferred Experience
- Prior involvement in medical textiles, performance wear, or climate-conscious design innovation.
- Experience working in institutional R&D settings or state textile boards will be added advantage.
- Familiarity with rural or cooperative production networks is an asset.
- Proficiency in maintaining textile lab records, drafting SOPs, and presenting field data.
